Summary: The Director, Business Development will translate the Infusion Systems (IS) and IV Solutions (IVS) strategies into a prioritized inorganic-growth pipeline and lead licensing, co-development, strategic partnership, and acquisition opportunities from opportunity shaping through value realization. The role partners across Marketing, R&D, Integrated Supply Chain, Regulatory, Medical, Quality, Finance, Legal, Commercial, and Corporate M&A to strengthen the portfolio, accelerate profitable growth, and advance differentiated infusion and medication-delivery solutions.

The Director will apply and improve ITP BD Standard Work, using disciplined stage gates, evidence-based decisions, compliant approvals, and clear accountability. The role represents Baxter externally with professionalism, responsiveness, sound judgment, and integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with IS and IVS marketing leaders to translate strategy into opportunity theses, search fields, and a prioritized pipeline of licensing, co-development, partnership, and M&A targets.
  • Lead opportunities through the five-stage ITP BD process: Category and Strategic Assessment, Target Evaluation, Due Diligence, Negotiation, and Implementation and Value Realization.
  • Build and defend decision-quality business cases, including revenue, margin, cash flow, NPV, IRR, ROIC, timing, and scenario analyses; revise recommendations when evidence changes value or risk.
  • Lead cross-functional diligence; surface material risks, dependencies, and resource needs early; and translate findings into mitigation, deal terms, or stop/pause recommendations.
  • Prepare evidence-based stage-gate and approval materials for the ITP Investment Committee, senior executives, and Corporate BD in accordance with delegated authority and required processes.
  • Own external partner engagement from confidentiality agreement through definitive agreement, including valuation, term sheets, negotiations, and coordination of transaction documents with Finance and Legal.
  • Ensure diligence findings and value drivers flow into implementation; support a disciplined handoff; track performance against the business case; and use post-transaction learning to improve the pipeline and BD Standard Work.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or other relevant advanced degree preferred. Ten or more years of experience in medical devices, operations, strategy, or business development, including at least five years leading licensing, strategic partnership, or M&A activities.

  • Demonstrated success leading complex licensing, partnership, or M&A transactions from sourcing through close and implementation.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen, including valuation, scenario analysis, business-case development, and executive recommendations.
  • Working knowledge of medical-device development, global regulatory and quality requirements, supply considerations, and relevant software or digital-health solutions.
  • Skilled negotiator and cross-functional leader with excellent judgment, executive presence, communication, organization, and ability to manage multiple global priorities. Implementation, alliance-management, integration, or continuous-improvement experience preferred.
