About the Role
We are seeking an experienced iOS App Developer (Contract) to build an application designed to serve the visually impaired and blind community. This role is ideal for a developer passionate about accessibility, user-centered design, and leveraging technology to improve people’s lives. This is a short-term contract role, requiring approximately 120 hours of work over an 8-week period. The developer will collaborate closely with our team to design, implement, and deliver a functional, user-friendly app that meets accessibility standards.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver an iOS application with a strong emphasis on accessibility for visually impaired and blind users.
- Implement accessibility features (e.g., VoiceOver, Dynamic Type, haptic feedback, high-contrast UI).
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
- Conduct testing to ensure app reliability, performance, and full accessibility compliance.
- Provide input on UX/UI decisions.
Qualifications
- Strong proficiency in Swift and iOS development frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience building iOS apps with accessibility as a core focus.
- Familiarity with Apple Accessibility APIs and best practices (VoiceOver, UIAccessibility, etc.).
- Knowledge of mobile UI/UX design principles, particularly for accessibility.
- Experience with version control (Git) and agile development practices.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently under a fixed timeline.
- Bonus: Prior experience working directly with assistive technology users or accessibility advocacy groups.
Contract Details
- Hours: ~120 hours spread over 8 weeks (average 15 hours/week).
- Compensation: $45 – $80 per hour, depending on experience.
- Start Date: Flexible, but ideally within the next few weeks.
- Work Environment: Fully remote. Regular check-ins with the team via Zoom/Slack.
