Kong API Developer / Kong Gateway Engineer
Job Title: Kong API Developer / Kong Gateway Engineer Experience: 8+ Years Preferred Location: Remote/ EST candidates Preferred Duration: 12+ Months Job Summary We are looking for an experienced Kong API Developer with strong hands-on experience in Kong API Gateway, API development, API management, and microservices architecture. The candidate will be responsible for developing, configuring, deploying, and maintaining APIs using Kong Gateway while ensuring security, scalability, and high availability. Required Skills 5+ years of experience in API development and integration. Hands-on experience with Kong Gateway / Kong Enterprise. Strong understanding of API Gateway concepts and API lifecycle management. Experience with Kong plugins and custom plugin development. Strong knowledge of REST APIs, JSON, HTTP/HTTPS. Experience with OAuth 2.0, JWT, API keys, and mTLS. Knowledge of microservices architecture. Experience with Linux, Docker, and Kubernetes. Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, Lua, JavaScript, or Shell. Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab, or GitHub Actions.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, configure, and manage APIs using Kong Gateway. Implement API routing, proxying, rate limiting, authentication, and authorization. Configure Kong plugins for API security and traffic management. Work with RESTful APIs, JSON, SOAP, and microservices. Implement authentication mechanisms such as OAuth 2.0, JWT, and API keys. Configure API policies, transformations, caching, and request/response validation. Integrate Kong Gateway with backend services and enterprise applications. Work with CI/CD pipelines to automate API deployment. Troubleshoot API gateway issues, latency, connectivity, and performance. Monitor API traffic, logs, and metrics. Collaborate with DevOps, cloud, security, and development teams. Preferred Skills Experience with Kong Konnect. Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP. Knowledge of PostgreSQL, Cassandra, or Redis. Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or Splunk. Understanding of service mesh and distributed systems.
