PHP Developer – Symfony Framework Location: Remote, USA Duration: 6 Months Domain: Life Sciences / Healthcare Job Summary We are seeking an experienced PHP/Symfony Developer to modernize a business-critical laboratory reporting application by migrating from legacy Symfony 2.x to a modern, supported Symfony version. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with legacy application migration, PHP upgrades, database integration, and regression testing.
Key Responsibilities
Upgrade legacy PHP applications from PHP 5.x to PHP 8.x and Symfony 2.x to a modern Symfony version. Refactor legacy code while preserving existing business functionality. Manage Composer dependencies and resolve compatibility issues. Integrate applications with Oracle databases using Doctrine ORM/DBAL and SQL. Troubleshoot legacy application workflows, integrations, and production issues. Develop and execute functional and regression tests using PHPUnit. Support Linux-based deployments, Docker, and Apache/Nginx environments. Maintain legacy JavaScript, jQuery, HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap components. Required Skills Strong PHP and Symfony development experience, especially legacy migrations. Experience upgrading PHP 5.x to PHP 8.x and Symfony 2.x to modern Symfony. Hands-on experience with Doctrine ORM/DBAL, Oracle DB, and SQL. Proficiency in Linux, Docker, Composer, and web server configurations. Experience with PHPUnit, automated regression testing, and application modernization. Healthcare or laboratory application experience preferred. Education Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
