[Remote] Backend Engineer
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Piper Companies is seeking a Backend Engineer to join an innovative organization in the network simulation and virtualization space for a fully remote contract opportunity. The Backend Engineer will play a key role in building and enhancing the backend infrastructure that powers large-scale network emulation environments.
Responsibilities
- Build and support backend applications responsible for provisioning, managing, and orchestrating virtual networking environments utilizing virtualization and container technologies
- Develop and maintain high-performing RESTful APIs that enable customers to create, control, and automate complex network simulation scenarios
- Integrate backend services with underlying infrastructure platforms to optimize system performance, scalability, and resource allocation
- Create automation-focused tools that support infrastructure-as-code workflows and network validation processes
- Improve platform reliability, responsiveness, and scalability while partnering with engineering and quality teams to deliver new capabilities
Skills
- 4+ years of professional backend software development experience
- Strong programming experience with Python and/or Go
- Hands-on experience with Linux systems, virtualization platforms, containers, or orchestration technologies
- Understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP, switching, routing, and network protocols
- Experience designing, developing, and supporting RESTful API solutions
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline
- Experience with automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Netmiko, or similar technologies preferred
- Familiarity with CI/CD processes, automated testing frameworks, GitHub, Jenkins, and pytest preferred
- Knowledge of cloud-native architectures, microservices, SDN concepts, or network simulation platforms is a plus
- CCNA certification preferred
