[Remote] Coding Educator

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Southcoast Health is a not-for-profit health system serving communities in Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The Coding Educator supports coding and compliance initiatives by auditing medical records, developing and implementing educational programs, improving documentation strategies, and orienting and auditing newly onboarded providers and programs.

Responsibilities

• Under the general direction of the Manager of Coding Education or designee, perform a variety of duties both within and in support of the Coding and Compliance initiatives
• Auditing of medical records to ensure documentation supports the level of service
• Documentation reflects the requirements of Local and National Determination Coverages
• Ability to develop and implement educational programs
• Initiate overall documentation improvement strategies
• The orientation and auditing of newly on-boarded providers and programs

Skills

• Candidate must be able to work independently, possess strong communication skills, demonstrate a systematic, organizeed approach to tasks, and convey a strict adherence to high standards and quality control
• Certified Professional Coding Certification or the equivalent is required
• Knowledge of all aspects of coding is required
• Strong understanding of coding guidelines, prospective payment systems, CMS rules, and OIG work plans is required
• Excellent interpersonal skills are required
• A minimum of 5 years progressive coding experience is required
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) and/or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) is required
• Must be fully vaccinated against seasonal Influenza and the COVID 19 virus or to be exempt from the requirement for medical or personal reasons by signing a statement certifying you are choosing to be exempt from vaccination once hired
• Bachelors degree in business, healthcare, education, or related field is preferred
