[Remote] Database Administrator
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. New York Technology Partners is seeking a Senior DB2 LUW Database Administrator to manage mission-critical DB2 databases across traditional and containerized environments. The role focuses on DB2 administration, OpenShift/Kubernetes deployments, high availability, performance tuning, migration, automation, security, and production support.
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain IBM DB2 LUW databases
- Administer DB2 environments across traditional and containerized platforms
- Design, configure, and support HADR and high-availability solutions
- Perform database performance tuning and SQL optimization
- Monitor database health, storage, capacity, and resource utilization
- Manage database backup, recovery, cloning, and disaster recovery activities
- Troubleshoot complex database issues and perform RCA
- Support database migrations, upgrades, and modernization initiatives
- Implement database security and compliance controls
- Deploy and manage DB2 databases on Red Hat OpenShift
- Configure and support Pods, Deployments, StatefulSets, PVs, PVCs, and Storage Classes
- Manage DB2 deployments using OpenShift Operators and container images
- Troubleshoot container, networking, and storage-related issues
- Collaborate with OpenShift platform teams on cluster maintenance and upgrades
- Analyze SQL execution plans and optimize complex queries
- Perform database capacity planning and forecasting
- Implement monitoring and alerting for database availability and performance
- Develop automation using Shell, Python, or Ansible
- Integrate database deployment and administration activities with CI/CD pipelines
- Automate database provisioning, patching, health checks, and backup activities
- Support Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and GitOps practices
- Provide production support for critical database environments
Skills
- 9+ years of overall Database Administration experience
- Strong hands-on experience with IBM DB2 LUW 10.x/11.x
- Strong experience with DB2 HADR
- Experience with TSA/Pacemaker
- Strong knowledge of DB2 backup, recovery, cloning, and disaster recovery
- Strong experience in SQL tuning and database performance optimization
- Experience with database replication and stored procedures
- 3+ years of experience with OpenShift/Kubernetes environments
- Hands-on experience with Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform (OCP)
- Strong understanding of Kubernetes architecture, Pods, Deployments, and StatefulSets
- Experience with OpenShift Operators and containerized database deployments
- Experience managing persistent storage, PVs, PVCs, and Storage Classes
- Knowledge of container networking, monitoring, and logging
- Strong RHEL/Linux administration experience
- Strong Shell scripting skills
- Experience with Ansible, Python, and Git
- Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or Azure DevOps
- Experience with database monitoring and production support
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and RCA capabilities
