[Remote] Engineering Manager
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. FutureTech Recruitment is partnering with a well-funded AI-native FinTech startup that automates complex workflows for major financial institutions. The Engineering Manager will lead an engineering pod of 6–8 engineers, oversee execution and career development, continue contributing code, and collaborate with Product Managers and Technical Leads on architecture and prioritization.
Responsibilities
- Manage a pod of 6-8 engineers - running 1:1s, continuous feedback, hiring, firing, PIPs, and career growth
- Own your pod's execution cadence - planning, retros, delivery health, and surfacing risk early
- Continue to code 10-20% of the time - shipping 1-2 PRs per week to stay close to the engineering experience
- Partner with Product Managers and Technical Leads on prioritisation, architecture decisions, and cross-functional alignment
- Onboard new engineers effectively and keep documentation and ownership boundaries sharp
Skills
- 8+ years of experience as a software engineer or engineering manager
- Real people management experience - managing 5+ engineers including hiring, firing, PIPs, and performance reviews (not just tech lead)
- Actively coding in a current or recent EM role - ships production software
- Strong TypeScript experience - no language substitutes
- AI-forward mindset - uses AI tools in engineering workflows and expects the team to do the same
- Familiarity with evals, experiment design, and dataset curation
- Backend engineering depth
