[Remote] Founding AI Engineer
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Leafra AI is building Jasemin, an ambient intelligence system that helps senior care communities detect issues early, prevent incidents, and improve resident care. The Founding Lead AI Engineer, Computer Vision will design, develop, and deploy real-time computer vision and machine learning systems, build alerting pipelines, and lead technical strategy for the AI engineering team.
Responsibilities
- You will develop and deploy computer vision and pattern recognition models for video-based monitoring, build the pipelines that turn vision sensor feeds into actionable alerts, and create robust software components that integrate with real-world care environments
- You will collaborate closely with product and operations partners to translate caregiver and resident needs into technical solutions, iterate rapidly on prototypes, and refine models based on real-world performance and feedback
- Daily responsibilities include architecting scalable vision and ML infrastructure, writing production-quality code, running experiments to improve fall and incident detection accuracy and care documentation accuracy, evaluating model performance in safety-critical conditions, and setting overall technical strategy as the founding lead of the AI engineering team — with outsized ownership and influence over the company's technical direction
Skills
- Strong foundation in Computer Science and Software Development, including data structures, algorithms, and building reliable production systems
- Hands-on expertise with state-of-the-art AI models, including CNNs, transformers, LLMs, and other cutting-edge architectures, and a track record of pushing them into real-world, production deployments
- Experience training, evaluating, and optimizing neural network models for real-world, real-time applications, ideally involving video or sensor streams
- Proficiency in modern ML/AI frameworks and languages (e.g., Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow, OpenCV) and familiarity with cloud or distributed computing environments, including deploying models at the edge or on-device
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams (local to the San Francisco Bay Area or fully remote) and operate well in an early-stage, fast-paced startup setting
- Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
- Experience with commercial computer vision applications is beneficial, along with a strong interest in improving senior care outcomes
Benefits
- Full-time role open to candidates local to the San Francisco Bay Area or fully remote.
- Meaningful, mission-critical work with direct impact on residents, families, and caregivers.
- Outsized ownership and influence over the company's technical direction.
- Opportunity to shape the company's future.
- Work shoulder-to-shoulder with a passionate founding team.
