[Remote] GitHub Contributor – Senior Software Engineer
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Umanist NA is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to contribute to GitHub- and GitLab-related software engineering work. The role focuses on creating reinforcement learning environments for evaluating AI models, developing reference solutions, debugging complex code, implementing features, refactoring codebases, optimizing performance, and reviewing technical contributions.
Responsibilities
- Create reinforcement learning environments that evaluate AI models on complex software engineering tasks
- Develop reproducible environments and golden/reference solutions for software engineering problems
- Debug and resolve complex software defects
- Implement new features in existing codebases
- Refactor and modernize legacy code
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks
- Apply strong algorithms, data structures, and software engineering principles
- Analyze unfamiliar and complex codebases and develop effective technical solutions
- Provide expert-level code samples, debugging strategies, and development insights
- Document technical reasoning, solution approaches, and implementation decisions
- Review and validate peer-contributed code and technical submissions
- Ensure solutions are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with software engineering best practices
Skills
- 4+ years of experience
- Create reinforcement learning environments that evaluate AI models on complex software engineering tasks
- Develop reproducible environments and golden/reference solutions for software engineering problems
- Debug and resolve complex software defects
- Implement new features in existing codebases
- Refactor and modernize legacy code
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks
- Apply strong algorithms, data structures, and software engineering principles
- Analyze unfamiliar and complex codebases and develop effective technical solutions

- Strong hands-on experience in at least one of the following: Python 3, Java, Rust, Go, C++, TypeScript
- Strong understanding of algorithms and data structures
