[Remote] Software Engineer, Backend (Product)
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Hex is building an industry-leading AI analytics platform, and is seeking experienced backend-leaning product engineers to expand its capabilities. The role focuses on building complex workflows for an agentic analytics platform, including APIs, MCP, command-line interfaces, access control, and enterprise features.
Responsibilities
- Build and extend Hex’s API and CLI to enable powerful, ergonomic workflows for our most sophisticated technical users
- Design MCP server and client implementations to expand entry points into our capabilities
- Design and implement a next-generation access control system, including role-based access control (RBAC), admin request/approval flows, and tiered admin roles that scale with complex organizations
- Own full-stack product changes end-to-end, from backend policy enforcement to admin-facing workflows, ensuring these enterprise features are intuitive, reliable, and secure
- Propose and implement well-architected, scalable systems in collaboration with the broader Hex team
Skills
- 5+ years of backend or full-stack software engineering experience
- Skilled at building systems with high levels of complexity and intricate business logic
- Deep interest and/or experience in developing state-of-the-art agentic workflows involving disparate systems and tools
- Experience working in a remote-first team, with strong communication skills in that context
- A passion for technical collaboration, including RFCs, code reviews, and architecture discussions
- Hands-on familiarity with enterprise integrations: SSO, SCIM-based provisioning, audit logs, MFA, and delegated access
- A strategic mindset that balances business and product goals with engineering excellence—you understand tradeoffs between user value and technical complexity and operate pragmatically
- Willingness to make changes anywhere in the stack to drive impact
