[Remote] Wireless Network Engineer
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Insight Global is seeking a Wireless Network Engineer to support enterprise wireless network design, deployment, automation, and operations. The role focuses on Cisco and Aruba wireless environments, predictive site surveys, 6GHz and RTLS deployments, network troubleshooting, project implementation, documentation, and coaching less experienced engineers.
Responsibilities
- Utilize Cisco Catalyst/DNA Center to design, automate, and manage enterprise network infrastructure. (Cisco 9800 WLC & 9000 series APs)
- Support and decommission of legacy Aruba (8.x) wireless environment (325/345/535 APs & 7030/7205/7210/7240 WLAN controllers)
- Establish relationships with key decision makers in the customer organization in order to contribute to project details and successful business outcomes
- Create and peer review predictive wireless site surveys using Ekahau tools to plan and validate wireless network deployments
- Emphasis on next-gen 6GHz high-density design and deployments utilizing RTLS
- Create and peer review change control and other project-related documents according to organization standards. Assist in the development of site-level network implementation plans (HLD/LLD)
- Import and manage Ekahau site survey data within Cisco Catalyst/DNA Center for network hierarchy and device mapping
- Work with outside vendors and internal organizations to have required equipment installed
- Implement changes according to project governance using pre-built MOPs. Assist in configuration and connectivity activities, including test planning and cutover activities. Work with on-site technician to perform user acceptance testing
- Provide operational support for complex, network deployments. Resolve client connectivity, interference, authentication, and coverage issues
- Participate on several concurrent projects/programs, occasionally a role in the guiding of the project team, using Jira for project management
- Maintain detailed documentation of network configurations, site surveys, and testing results
- Perform and coach others to continuously document knowledge to enable an effective knowledge sharing process and organizational development
- Coach team members of lesser experienced wireless or network engineers in Customer Projects to ensure that they are delivered according to expectations and plans and standards
- Assist in development of business and technical requirements
Skills
- Remote role with some travel requires for AP Surveys
- Ideal candidate would have managed Wi-Fi environments for medium/large enterprise customers and have extensive knowledge of enterprise Wi-Fi clients and operations
- Strong knowledge of Cisco Wireless technologies and access point configurations, deployments, network automation, and management on Cisco Catalyst Center
- Extensive deployment knowledge on Cisco 9800 series WLAN controller
- Experience with Aruba Mobility Conductor (8.x) for network automation and management
- Experience performing LAN & WLAN hardware infrastructure changes (layer 2/3)
- In-depth understanding of troubleshooting Cisco layer 2/3 configurations
- Understanding of L3 routing protocols used in enterprise environments (BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP)
- Proficient in designing, deploying, and managing Cisco Software-Defined Access (SDA) fabrics, including underlay and overlay network configuration, VXLAN encapsulation, LISP control plane, and policy enforcement using Cisco Catalyst Center for automation and segmentation
- Experience with Ekahau Site Survey tools for wireless network planning and validation
- Hands-on experience with AP-on-a-stick testing methodology
- Basic understanding of Wireless authentication via ISE
- Understanding of network discovery, device inventory, and network hierarchy design
- Strong understanding of Microsoft Excel
- Experience using Jira (or alternate) agile project management tool
- Experience with the Change Management process
