Senior DevOps Engineer
Cleary is recruiting a Senior DevOps Engineer to join its AI Acceleration team.
You will own the DevOps function, as its first senior member, joining our DevOps Engineer and reporting to the Senior Manager.
You will be embedded in our team of software engineers, AI engineers, and legal experts, representing the AI Acceleration team’s needs and working with IT, Information Security, and Risk teams, operating with a hands-on approach across the full software development lifecycle of our bespoke software platforms.
The Senior DevOps Engineer will take over tasks shared across our engineers, helping them to focus on software.
About the team:
We build practical AI applications, automations and agentic AI workflows empowering world-class legal experts in M&A, Private Funds, and other areas of law at Cleary with a focus on legal intelligence and document processing.
We move quickly, work collaboratively, and value good judgement, clear communication, and ownership. Lawyers entrust us with highly confidential data and we protect it carefully.
We are a remote team with a minimum requirement of 32 hours per week, spread across four or five days.
Main Responsibilities:
- Shape our technical standards, delivery processes, and the growing DevOps team
- Own our cloud infrastructure end-to-end, including security, networking, observability, resilience, and disaster recovery
- Negotiate pragmatic solutions with IT, Information Security, and Risk
- Build and maintain secure AWS infrastructure using Terraform, Docker, and ECS
- Improve CI/CD, deployment safety, and the developer experience
- Maintain a hardened container-based sandbox for our Data Science team
- Automate compliance, vulnerability management, access controls etc.
- Identify and drive operational improvements and automation within the team
Skills and Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a developer or developer adjacent role
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in DevOps
- AWS and Terraform
- CI/CD and multi-environment deployments using GitHub or similar tools
- Docker and container orchestration (we use ECS)
- Familiarity with Python, React/TypeScript, and PostgreSQL
- Azure experience is a plus
- Identity, access, and secrets management
- Monitoring, dashboards, alerting, and service reliability
- Strong communication and negotiation skills to represent the team internally
