Tax Preparer - Winter 2027
Job description: Job Overview We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Part-Time Tax & Accounting Assistant to support our tax preparation, bookkeeping, and payroll services for individuals and small businesses. We welcome candidates with prior tax or accounting experience, as well as current accounting students who have a strong academic foundation and are eager to gain practical experience. The level of responsibility and training provided will be based on the candidate’s experience.
Responsibilities
Assist with the preparation of individual and business tax returns Organize and review client tax documents for completeness Enter tax information accurately into professional tax preparation software Perform bookkeeping using QuickBooks Record and categorize financial transactions Reconcile bank and credit card accounts Assist with payroll processing and payroll recordkeeping Support quarterly and annual payroll tax filings, including Forms 941, W-2, and 1099 Maintain organized digital files and protect confidential client information Provide general accounting and administrative support as needed
Qualifications
Candidates should meet one of the following: Prior experience in tax preparation, bookkeeping, payroll, or public accounting; or Current enrollment in an accounting degree program with relevant accounting or tax coursework Additional qualifications: Basic understanding of accounting principles Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy Good organizational and time-management skills Proficiency in Microsoft Excel Ability to learn new software, follow established procedures, and meet deadlines Professional written and verbal communication skills Ability to handle confidential financial and personal information responsibly Reliable and able to work independently after appropriate training
Preferred Qualifications
Experience preparing individual or business tax returns Experience with QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Desktop Experience processing payroll or preparing payroll tax filings Prior experience in a CPA or tax preparation firm Familiarity with professional tax preparation software Mandarin Chinese proficiency is strongly preferred due to frequent communication with Mandarin-speaking clients.
