We are looking to add a Technical Director to our Technical Dept. The Technical Director translates creative concepts into actionable, structurally sound technical realities for individual projects. Responsible for the technical pre-production, CAD drafting, and on-site execution of assigned shows, the TD manages day-to-day vendor deliverables, coordinates venue logistics, and ensures the technical build is completed safely, on time, and within budget.

You will report directly to the Senior Director of Technical Services. Position may be done remotely with the ability to travel to various events.

Salary is $200,000

What you’ll do

  • Create detailed, accurate site plans, ground plans, rigging plots, and sections using industry-standard design software.
  • Build and manage detailed technical line-item budgets for assigned projects; track expenses and process vendor change orders.
  • Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate individual vendor quotes for staging, audio, video, lighting, and scenic elements.
  • Call the load-in, setup, strike, and load-out on show site; manage local labor and vendor crews to ensure adherence to safety regulations and design specs.
  • Coordinate directly with venue technical managers regarding power drops, rigging points, loading docks, and local permitting requirements.

Who You Are

  • 5-7 years of hands-on experience working as a Technical Director or Associate Technical Director in live events, theater, or corporate experiential production.
  • Proficient, daily drafting experience in Vectorworks, AutoCAD, or SketchUp.
  • Strong working knowledge of standard rigging practices, scenic construction methods, power distribution, and fundamental audio, video, and lighting engineering.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing crew labor and vendors under tight timelines on active show sites.
  • Ability to travel extensively and work flexible, irregular hours (early mornings, late nights,
  • weekends) as dictated by show schedules.
  • Strong aptitude for real-time troubleshooting, structural math, and spatial reasoning
  • Clear, concise verbal and written communication skills to bridge the gap between creative designs and technical execution.
