[Remote] Lead Data Engineer

The company is a rapidly growing SaaS provider that helps healthcare, public sector, and human services organizations transform complex data into actionable insights. The Lead Data Engineer will evolve and scale a customer-facing analytics platform by building data pipelines, shaping architecture, improving platform reliability, and mentoring engineers.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines that power analytics products and customer reporting
- Lead architecture discussions and make recommendations around data platform improvements
- Develop and optimize data models used across reporting and analytics systems
- Integrate, onboard, and transform new customer data sources
- Troubleshoot customer-facing data issues and drive long-term solutions
- Improve reliability, automation, observability, and operational efficiency across the data platform
- Lead complex technical initiatives from planning and design through deployment and support
- Establish engineering standards, best practices, and technical frameworks
- Mentor and guide other engineers while helping elevate overall team capabilities
- Influence platform roadmap decisions and the future direction of the data engineering function
Skills
- 7-10+ years of software or data engineering experience
- 5+ years of hands-on data engineering experience
- Expert-level SQL skills
- Strong Python experience focused on data processing and pipeline development
- Deep experience building and supporting large-scale ELT/ETL data pipelines
- Strong data modeling and data architecture expertise
- Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow, Dagster, or similar platforms
- Experience working with large, complex datasets and varying levels of data quality
- Proven technical leadership experience mentoring engineers or leading small engineering teams
- Ability to evaluate technical tradeoffs and make architecture recommendations
- Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Healthcare or healthcare analytics experience
- Dbt experience
- PostgreSQL expertise
- Experience across multiple database technologies
- Background modernizing or migrating enterprise data platforms
- Experience supporting customer-facing analytics products
