Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Linux Systems Support Engineer at brighthush, you will be the go‑to expert for complex, high‑severity incidents. Your day‑to‑day tasks will include:

  • Diagnosing and resolving kernel‑level and user‑space issues across a wide range of Linux distributions.
  • Leading root‑cause analysis for production incidents, documenting findings, and driving preventive measures.
  • Mentoring and coaching junior support engineers, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborating with product, engineering, and DevOps teams to refine tooling, automation, and monitoring solutions.
  • Designing and implementing automated remediation scripts using Bash, Python, and Ansible.
  • Participating in on‑call rotations, ensuring 24/7 coverage for critical customer environments.
  • Contributing to open‑source projects that align with our product strategy.
  • Providing feedback on product features, usability, and performance from a support perspective.

Essential Qualifications

We’re looking for a seasoned professional who brings a deep technical foundation and a passion for problem‑solving:

  • 7+ years of experience in Linux systems engineering or support, with at least 5 years of hands‑on Linux administration.
  • Proficiency in kernel debugging (crash, kdump, gdb), performance analysis (perf, eBPF, bpftrace, SystemTap), and advanced tracing (strace, ltrace).
  • Hands‑on experience with container runtimes (Apptainer, Podman) and orchestration platforms (Kubernetes).
  • Strong background in virtualization technologies (KVM, QEMU, libvirt) and cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure).
  • Expertise in scripting (Bash, Python) and configuration management (Ansible).
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, especially GitHub Actions and GitLab CI.
  • CKA (Certified Kubernetes Administrator) or equivalent certification is highly preferred.
  • Active participation in the open‑source community—contributions to kernel, container, or cloud projects are a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to translate complex technical issues to non‑technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with RPM packaging and package management on enterprise Linux.
  • Knowledge of cloud‑native networking (CNI plugins, service meshes) and storage solutions (Ceph, GlusterFS).
  • Familiarity with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Tempo) and log aggregation.
  • Background in security hardening, SELinux, AppArmor, and compliance frameworks.
  • Experience with performance tuning for high‑throughput workloads such as databases, message queues, or web servers.
  • Prior leadership experience in a technical support or engineering team.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Advanced Linux kernel internals and debugging techniques.
  • Container lifecycle management and troubleshooting.
  • Virtualization architecture and performance optimization.
  • Automation and scripting for system administration.
  • Incident management, root‑cause analysis, and post‑mortem documentation.
  • Collaboration across cross‑functional teams (product, engineering, DevOps).
  • Mentorship and knowledge transfer.
  • Adaptability to fast‑paced, evolving technology landscapes.
