Work from home Full-time role Hiring

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Systems Administrator I helps keep First Choice Health Network's servers, cloud services and business applications secure, reliable and performing well. This remote role handles day-to-day administration of the organization's AWS cloud environment, Windows and Linux servers, and SaaS and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) applications. The Systems Administrator I resolves technical issues escalated from the helpdesk, carries out planned changes during scheduled maintenance windows, and takes part in an on-call rotation. The role works independently on routine administration and with senior staff on larger changes and projects.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Administer and maintain the organization's AWS environment, including compute, storage, networking, identity and access management, cost monitoring and security configuration

  • Administer Windows Server and Linux systems, including Active Directory (user accounts and groups), DNS, Group Policy and IIS web servers

  • Support cloud virtual desktop and contact center environments, and remote desktop services

  • Manage SaaS and COTS applications: configuration, user access, upgrades, and working with vendors to resolve issues

  • Perform light SQL Server administration: backups and restores, permissions, monitoring and routine maintenance

  • Apply operating system and application patches using remote monitoring and management (RMM) tools, and confirm systems are healthy afterward

  • Monitor system health, performance and capacity using monitoring and logging platforms; respond to alerts and investigate incidents

  • Resolve escalated (Tier 2/3) server, desktop and application issues from the helpdesk, and document fixes so first-line staff can handle them in future

  • Run and regularly test backups and restores using enterprise backup and recovery tools, and support disaster recovery and failover procedures

  • Support security operations: respond to endpoint detection and response (EDR) alerts, remediate vulnerabilities, apply least-privilege access and protect PHI in line with HIPAA

  • Help manage public website services, including DNS, TLS certificates, CDN, web application firewall and load-balancing services

  • Support network infrastructure (firewalls, switches, VPN) alongside senior staff

  • Plan, document and carry out changes through the change management process, in approved change windows and with rollback plans

  • Automate routine tasks using Python and PowerShell

  • Track incidents, requests and changes in the ITSM/ticketing platform, and keep documentation and runbooks current

  • Participate in scheduled after-hours maintenance windows and a rotating on-call schedule

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, System Administration or a closely related field, or equivalent experience

  • 2-4 years of systems administration experience

  • CompTIA Security+ or equivalent security certification

  • Hands-on experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS and Group Policy

  • 2+ years of hands-on AWS administration experience

  • Scripting experience with Python and/or PowerShell

  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, firewalls and TLS certificates

  • Experience with patching, endpoint security and backup in a business environment

  • Clear written and verbal communication, including explaining technical issues to non-technical staff

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Remote position, with occasional travel to the office or data center

  • Normal hand and finger dexterity

  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time

  • Ability to see within normal ranges, with or without aid

  • Occasionally lift and move equipment up to 25 lbs

  • Availability for scheduled after-hours maintenance windows and on-call rotation
