Wi-Fi System Engineer
Job Description: Collaborate with Baseband, RF, Antenna, and Software/Firmware teams to define system architectures, throughput targets, and latency budgets. Perform PHY/MAC layer performance trade-off studies (MIMO, beamforming, OFDMA, MU-MIMO, Multi-Link Operation / MLO, AFC) Architect, build, and maintain automated test beds for Wi-Fi performance, interoperability, roaming, and functional compliance. Characterize system throughput, packet error rate (PER), latency, jitter, EVM, and spectral emissions using conducted and over-the-air (OTA) setups. Emulate complex real-world environments using multipath channel emulators, RF matrix switches, anechoic chambers, and attenuation arrays. Develop automated test frameworks and measurement scripts in Python to streamline regression testing and stress tests across diverse client ecosystems. Drive root-cause failure analysis (RCFA) for complex wireless anomalies using sniffer traces (Wireshark/OmniPeek), log parsers, and RF test instruments. Job Responsibilities: Core Protocol Knowledge: Deep understanding of IEEE 802.11 standards (802.11n/ac/ax and emerging 802.11be), including frame formats, state machines, channel access mechanisms (CSMA/CA, EDCA), and security standards (WPA2/WPA3 Personal and Enterprise). Hands-on Lab Instrumentation: Proficiency in operating RF test equipment: Vector Signal Analyzers (VSA) and Vector Signal Generators (VSG) Spectrum analyzers, power meters, and digital oscilloscopes Dedicated Wi-Fi test solutions (e.g., OctoScope/Spirent, LitePoint IQxel, Keysight, Rohde & Schwarz) RF attenuation matrix switches and programmable faders Education: Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
