[Remote] Software Engineer, Customer Support
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Campfront is a camp management platform for US summer camps that supports enrollment, payments, and daily camp administration. The Software Engineer, Customer Support will own the engineering side of customer support by diagnosing and resolving bugs, coordinating larger issues, shipping product improvements, and proactively monitoring the platform.
Responsibilities
- Pick up camp-reported bugs, reproduce them, and drive them to resolution at whatever pace each one honestly allows
- Triage fast and accurately: separate real bugs from configuration and feature requests, and route each to the right owner
- Ship the fixes you can, and scope and coordinate the ones you can’t do alone
- Ship features and improvements between bug work, so you’re building on the roadmap and not only firefighting
- Work across the stack: React with Inertia on the front, Ruby on Rails behind it, Postgres for data
- Watch our error monitoring tools and catch issues before a camp has to report them
- Track everything in Linear, and join the same standups, reviews, and Slack as the rest of engineering to help curate the product
Skills
- Comfortable across frontend and backend in a Rails and React codebase
- You enjoy dropping into unfamiliar code and tracing a bug to its cause without any hand-holding
- A clear communicator who sets expectations well. You'll read customer reports and often talk to camps directly
- Available through US business hours, since in-season issues need same-day attention even when the fix takes longer
- Real hands-on coding experience and a solid grasp of what you're shipping. AI speeds you up, but it doesn't do the job for you, so this isn't a role for someone who only vibecodes
- Fluent with AI tools like Claude Code and Codex, and clear-eyed about where they help and where they don't
- Remote, US-based
- Working hours may shift later during the summer season, depending on your timezone, to cover camps while they're live
- In peak season, expect to be reachable for urgent issues outside normal hours from time to time
- Potential travel for industry events (e.g. ACA Tri-State, Camp Collab, and similar)
- You must already be authorized to work in the US. We're not able to sponsor visas for this role
- You know camp, or you want to. Understanding how a camp actually runs helps you fix the right things first, and camp experience of any kind is a plus
Benefits
- Health coverage
- Budget to set up your home office: desk, monitor, chair, whatever helps you work well
- Remote, US-based
